The Hintergrund 20 documents the exciting collaboration between the Architekturzentrum Wien and the Tanzquartier Wien (TQW) in 2003. As part of the Factory Season, the TQW sets a thematic focus for a research project every year in May and June. In 2003, 12 artists and 4 theoreticians were invited to approach the theme of DenkMal from different perspectives.

Description

The Architekturzentrum Wien curated the architectural focus of the Factory Season with two guided tours and a lecture: in May, Stephan Templ led a tour of concealed monuments around the Naschmarkt; in June, Irene Nierhaus gave a lecture on the role of architectures, monuments, and the (mass) media representation of body, gender, and gaze in urban space. The first guided tour through the 1st district by Marion Kuzmany and Barbara Achleitner, which took place in January 2003, was one of the starting points for the research and discussion of the DenkMal artists.
