*69-2 Alt Erlaa Garden Estate / Harry Glück

In the context of the famous large-scale housing estate with a swimming pool on the roof, the heavily emphasised vertical articulation of a housing development seems to run contrary to the horizontal woven-like structure. A pedestrian zone combines two residential worlds to make one new district in the city with an urban diversity of uses. The fields of activity in the course of the day form a kind of imaginary base for the residents, employees there and regular visitors. These subjective experiences of the different zones via various forms of activities, information and function are layered upon one another and form an imaginary density.

About 10,000 people live in the Alt Erlaa garden estate. The symbolic nature of the complex, completed in 1985 by Harry Glück, radiates towards the new neighbours to the south and north. The lives of the content tenants, who are often surveyed, are now to be improved by new impulses following the link-up to the U6 metro line, also by the intensive mixed usage being offered opposite.
