Around Prater Stadium

A diverse ensemble of established sports facilities is concentrated near the Grüner Prater, in the vicinity of the Prater Stadium, built in 1931— Austria’s largest sports stadium and now known as the Ernst Happel Stadium, a venue for international soccer matches and major events.

The Sport Arena Wien, situated on the site of the former Ferry Dusika Stadium, has recently expanded this complex to include multi-purpose halls for school, club and competitive sports, representing a strategic modernisation of the City of Vienna’s public sports facilities. With the Krieau trotting track, where the historic stands have been partially converted into offices, a traditional form of equestrian sport still has a present-day venue. The Stadion underground station makes major events manageable in terms of infrastructure and integrates the area into the urban transport network, a development that will be enhanced by the future long-distance coach terminal and a planned pedestrian ramp leading down to the River Danube.
