Once part of the fortifications and the bottleneck of urban supply lines, the Kasematten is a part of Wiener Neustadt's founding history that has now been culturally linked to the present. The Lower Austrian Landesausstellung was pioneering in its inaugural use of the Neue Galerie and Kasematten in 2019. After a start lasting several months, the project enters its second phase at the beginning of 2020.

How unexpected discoveries shaped the emergence of the project, the way that the architects reacted to the historical substance and embedded it in contemporary cultural and event architecture, and what future uses are planned — these are all topics for an afternoon excursion heading south from Vienna.
