A Chicken Coop Instead of a Gourmet Temple

VinziRast am Land is a project not far from Vienna where a former hotel and restaurant have been redesigned to create a diverse (infra)structure and a home for formerly homeless people.

In addition to residential units and communal areas, gaupenraub+/- designed guest rooms, workshops and seminar rooms, a 600 sqm biotope, vegetable patches, greenhouses and an old barn converted into a chicken coop. The local community provides both support and a daily structure with suitable regular work related to agriculture and the new architecture. In the long term, the project aims to be self-sustaining through the sale of eggs and vegetable boxes, catering, and the hiring out of guest rooms and other spaces.
