To mark Hermann Czech’s 90th birthday, we turn our attention to his multifaceted body of work and his lasting influence on architecture, urban planning and architectural theory.

As an architect, theoretician and sharp observer of everyday life, Czech has helped shape the building culture in Vienna over the decades. His work is characterised by a keen interest in context and an approach to design that inextricably links analysis to the final form. Together with the man himself, we look at selected projects, texts, photographs and books from Hermann Czech’s donation to the Az W Collection. Memories meet contemporary perspectives, showing why Czech remains one of the most significant voices in the architectural discourse today even at the age of 90.
