An increasing number of architects are documenting their visions and projects in the form of intelligent and well-designed publications. 2001 has been no exception here, with numerous monographs having been published, providing a stimulating and colourful image of Austrian architecture both doing justice to the work of Austrian architects and teams of architects and allowing this work to flow into the public discourse. However there are also some interesting products to be found beyond these monographs, a classical form of representation, products that approach architecture on other levels – whether in novel form, or as documentation in the wake of small temporary interventions now gone.

A Christmas retrospective glance at what has been happening on the architecture book market this year in Austria. As a supplement, portfolios and brochures of newer studios of young architects offer a glimpse into the future of architecture publications.

The Compact Portfolio
Az W Sonntags Excursions

The Compact Portfolio has been developed in collaboration with Marion Kuzmany and is based on the series of ’Sonntags Architektur’ excursions organised by Brigitte Redl-Manhartsberger on a regular basis since 1997. It consists of three parts (ring binder, sleeve and project sheets) and represents a brand new type of architecture guidebook, one that can be continually updated. Furthermore, the Compact Portfolio provides for variable contents according to the user’s interests and is particular practical in terms of design.
From December 2001 the Portfolios and Project Sheets of selected and current Sonntags tours are available from the Az W museum shop (Museumsplatz 1, 1070 Vienna). From December 2001 you will be able to follow the Sonntags tours at your own leisure. (Marion Kuzmany, 2001)

The last-minute Christmas present: big reductions on lot ends and knickknacks from the Az W shop are available direct from us from 20th to 24th December.
