The high-calibre international panel discussion is the lead-in to and highpoint of the extensive three-day programme of the 2016 civil engineers congress. On the basis of the housing developments presented and the reports on the experiences made, the aim is to show that affordable homes and high quality architecture are by no means contradictory — neither in Vienna, nor internationally. The discussion is intended to provide a valuable contribution to the current discussion on housing development and show that the architects’ role in the planning for a changing society — in buildings with new stipulations — has become more important than ever. …Quality housing in high quality architecture is affordable.
