With its numerous projects in cooperation with schools, the Architekturzentrum Wien’s educational policy plays a pioneering role in the mediation of architecture. Over the course of the past school year two exemplary projects have been launched. In the first, students of the Höhere Graphische Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt conceived a website that provides a platform for schoolchildren, kids and young people for a playful but nevertheless highly informative engagement with architecture. This website is a work in progress, and will be given added depth by cooperative projects to come.

The second project is presented by Sophie Hochhäusl, who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In the course of her graduation project she compiled material for teaching a course on models of housing in Red Vienna. The concept was completed in close cooperation with the Architekturzentrum Wien and the Camillo Sitte Lehranstalt, and is to be distributed free of charge to interested teachers from October 2009.

Both projects are orientated on the permanent exhibition ‘a_show. Austrian Architecture in the 20th and 21st Centuries’, and provide key source material for everybody involved in the field of architecture mediation.
