"The act of building produces knowledge just as the resulting knowledge produces buildings", says Anupama Kundoo. In her lecture, the Indian architect shares an insight into her building projects, which combine low-tech with high-tech, the traditional with the future, the careful use of resources with a generous approach, and beauty with pragmatism.
For Anupama Kundoo, it is not only the completed building that counts, it is the construction process itself. Architecture has to go beyond just design by embodying aspects such as research on materials and the economic context to find answers to real challenges being faced now. Experimentation with materials has led her to challenge normative standardisation and global industrial manufacturing. The discussion that follows covers these issues and goes a step further: does a different architecture also need a different architecture discourse?
