According to a recent study of the top 200 Austrian businesses by the Vienna Chamber of Labour only every twentieth business manager and every tenth member of a board of directors is a woman. Action is urgently required if Austria does not want to remain at the tail end of Europe in terms of the quota of women who hold leading positions. The central topic for the evening is the contribution that architecture can make in the concrete design of the work setting to promote equal opportunities in the workplace. The content being addressed ranges from a historical review of traditional social roles, taking the Vienna Ringturm as an example, including the topical gender-sensitive planning project Landhaus2 in Innsbruck and strategies for future-orientated project development that prioritizes economic advantage above a policy of top-down decision-making by male management.
