School-goers know their own schools from everyday experience. But the conscious perception of these spaces is not something that should be taken for granted. Usually it’s schoolchildren themselves who know what works best, what functions properly and where deficiencies lie, but they are seldom given an opportunity to talk about or realise their own ideas. We talk about the history of school building on location. The space is analysed and measured, to be rediscovered and redesigned with the aid of various techniques used in the production of architecture. When the schoolchildren analyse a space that they know well, architecture becomes a matter of first-hand experience.
