The name says it all: Raumlabor berlin understands architecture as a collective, social and open-ended process that extends beyond the physical object. Their projects demonstrate how temporary architecture can function as a tool for social and spatial transformation.

Raumlabor is a collective of nine architects that has been working since 1999 on a situational basis at the intersection of urban space, art, architecture and intervention. The resulting spaces are testing grounds for appropriation, participation and new forms of coexistence. Their experimental, urban spatial practice ranges from artistic interventions to urban planning approaches – such as the Haus der Statistik or the Floating University. This presentation provides insights into key projects of theirs and explores what can be learned from temporary structures in the realm of architecture and urban planning. Raumlabor has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale.
