In keeping with this year’s theme for the Vienna Art Week, ‘Navigating Angst’, the Az W invites visitors to meet key figures from the realm of architecture who are using these times of uncertainty as a catalyst for innovative ideas and to transform challenges into opportunities.

The Institute of Building Research & Innovation embodies this spirit by developing evidence-based solutions for sustainable building practices. By combining science and technology, people’s practical needs are translated into forward-looking, environmentally responsible constructions. This includes new approaches to low-emission housing and the efficient use of resources, as well as research into low-carbon cooling systems for buildings. The architectural practice led by Juri Troy is characterised by an integrative, future-proof approach. Its work combines culturally significant building concepts with strategies for energy efficiency and carbon neutrality, with a particular focus on renewable raw materials such as locally sourced timber or clay and earth.
