Joseph Maria Schemerl: Technische Hochschule / Technische Universität Wien (TU), Wien, 1816–1818
Various educational paths were available for those wishing to work as architects. Typically, students attended the State Trade School (Staatsgewerbeschule), followed by the Technical University, and usually then pursued studies at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Some students also attended the School of Applied Arts (Kunstgewerbeschule), now the University of Applied Arts Vienna, or the so-called Loos School. The educational institutions were frequently renamed over the course of their existence. The most common or then-current name was chosen for the Encyclopedia entries, while the “History of the Educational Institutions” provides a detailed account of the varying names.
